Terry Moss is an award‑winning woodcarver, caricature artist, and chainsaw carver based in Turner, Oregon. Although he has worked with wood for most of his adult life, his carving journey began almost ten years ago after discovering Woodcarving Illustrated magazine. Inspired by the creativity and craftsmanship, Terry dove headfirst into the world of woodcarving—a decision that would reshape his life and career.
Determined to master the craft, Terry sought out online resources and soon connected with a carving instructor. What began as curiosity quickly grew into passion as he committed to weekly lessons and continuous skill development.
Terry joined the Capitol Woodcarvers in Salem, Oregon, where he became an active leader in the carving community. He served three years as Club President and played a key role in expanding club activities and outreach. His leadership extended to the Northwest Carving Academy in Ellensburg, Washington, where he now serves as Board President and helps organize one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier annual carving events.
About five years ago, Terry and his wife Bonnie attended a chainsaw carving event that sparked a new creative direction. Fascinated by the idea of blending caricature carving with chainsaw artistry, Terry took a weekend chainsaw carving class. That experience opened the door to competitions up and down the West Coast, where he quickly gained recognition for his unique style and storytelling.
In 2023, Terry showcased his work at the Caricature Carvers of America “Carving the Rockies” show in Colorado Springs. His piece Prepare for Departure earned 1st Place in the Group Mixed category and 2nd Best in Show, while Camp Robbers won 1st Place in the Group Animal category.
In 2024, Terry’s dedication and artistic excellence were recognized with his nomination and acceptance into the Caricature Carvers of America, one of the highest honors in the field.
Terry and his wife Bonnie reside just south of Salem in the small town of Turner, Oregon, where he continues to carve, teach, compete, and inspire others through his distinctive blend of humor, craftsmanship, and chainsaw artistry.
